Friday 28th July: Preparation
10am-4pm: every rider will be allocated 1hr track time for practice
5pm: competition briefing

Saturday 29th July: Raid & Skirmish
9am – 2pm: Raid 
2.30pm – 6.30pm: Skirmish

Sunday 30th July: Tower & prize giving
9am – 3.30pm: Tower
4pm: Prize giving

Facilities

Please note that the facilities on site are basic. There is water and we will have 2 portaloos and a gas powered shower.

Food wise, there is a Tesco 10mins down the road. There is also a McDonalds, a pub and we’ve previously ordered pizza.

For horses the field has a lot of grass, but please bring your own hay if you think your horse will need it.

Disclaimer and Rules

Participants are responsible for their own safety and the safety of those around them. The organisers will have conducted a risk assessment of the venue before training sessions take place. This will have been checked by the Range Safety Officer (RSO). It is the responsibility of each individual to listen carefully to instructions and to observe safety rules that are put in place.If you identify any risks at any time that the organisers and coaches may not be aware of then stop and make the RSO aware of the risk so that the problem can be sorted.

I understand that archery, horse-riding and horseback archery are all activities with inherent risk.
– If you are unsure or uncomfortable with anything that you are being asked to do then say so and ask for help, and if you are still unhappy then don’t do it.

I confirm that I do not have any pre-existing injuries or conditions which will be further aggravated by taking part in archery and horse riding.

If I have a disability I have made sure that the event organiser and the Coach are aware of it and any adjustments I may require as a result.

I understand and agree that I will obey ALL commands from the Range Safety Officer at ALL times.

I understand that bows and arrows are weapons:
-An arrow should only be nocked (put on the bow string) and the bow drawn when on the shooting line (ground archery) or starting my turn on the track (horseback archery).
Nocked arrows must be pointed towards the target at all times during ground archery
During mounted sessions, when carrying a nocked arrow it must be pointed towards the target, or the ground or sky – NOT out sideways
I must never nock an arrow when anybody is on the target side of the shooting line. If someone crosses the line after I have nocked I will remove the arrow from the string and shout STOP.

I understand that if I’m using my own archery equipment it is in a condition that is safe to use and is of a type allowed in horseback archery:

Bows must not have an arrow shelf, sight, weight or stabilisers. The bow must be in good condition and safe to shoot. Arrows must be feather-fletched.

I understand that horses are unpredictable:
-Please be aware of your surroundings and anything that could cause your horse to spook. Keep a safe distance from other horses, particularly considering that you may be riding in groups where the horses don’t know each other.

I understand that I have taken all possible precautions to help my horse be safe for horseback archery, and that my horse’s safety and the safety of other people’s horses is MY responsibility:
– My horse is appropriately schooled and safe to ride on a loose rein both in the school and in a field environment, with other horses
– My horse has no behavioural issues that would cause it to be a danger to others in a new environment
– My horse is safe for others to lead or handle in the event it becomes necessary
– My horse has no physical issues or injuries which would prevent participation in horseback archery
– I am responsible for deciding an appropriate level of insurance cover for my horse
– My tack conforms to BHAA guidelines: “the horse should have free head carriage. Any device or arrangement that pulls on the horse’s head or mouth during normal paces is not permitted” – draw reins or similar may not be used
My horse refers to the horse I am riding for the competition irrespective of if I own, loan or borrow the horse.

I understand that I must wear appropriate safety equipment for horseback archery:
– A kite-marked riding hat should always be worn when mounted. The only exception to the riding hat rule is if you’re wearing a turban, and that risk is your own choice.
– You may wear a body protector if you wish but no air jackets please.
– Please wear appropriate footwear for riding with a suitable heel.
