A quick post to clarify Ryanair’s policy re: archery equipment. A few of us from the BHAA are travelling to Sweden this weekend for a competition and we were informed that the low-cost airline does not allow bows or arrows even in the hold. Having reviewed their website’s terms and conditions this seemed to be the case which led to mild panic. After spending hours working out how to get our bows & arrows to Sweden and baulking at the prices we were given by courier companies and other airlines, we had the bright idea of actually calling Ryanair and asking them!

Ryanair DOES allow archery equipment – so you can check-in your bows, arrows and whatever else. However, you will need to pay some £30 (one-way) extra to carry “sports equipment”. However, beware that some items may be banned such as replica weapon. So best to check their terms & conditions or call the airline (at 10p per minute!) to ask them.
